Mary McClain Williams, 95, wife of the late James C. Williams, of Abbeville, died Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Self Regional Healthcare. She was born in Oconee County to the late Robert Nathaniel McClain and Sadie Belle Graham McClain.
Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Westminister High School (1941), North Greenville Junior College (1943), and Carson Newman College (1944). Her graduate work was completed at Southwestern Baptist Seminary and Clemson Extension. Mrs. Williams taught in the public school system for twenty-three years and has been an active member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church since 1947 where she participated in the WMU and taught Sunday school for sixty years.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her son, Robert, and his wife Brenda R. Williams of Greenwood; a daughter, Phyllis Grimmer of Alabama; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred McClain Looper of Pickens and Frances McClain Armstrong of Seneca.
The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:00PM on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Harris Funeral Home in Abbeville. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Moses Aleman officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Williams in Greenwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Williams, are sent to the Abbeville First Baptist Church, PO Box 825, Abbeville, SC 29620.
