William E. ‘Bill’ Ellis, 85, of Antreville, SC, husband of Caroline Ashley Ellis, died Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC. He was born in Abbeville County, SC to the late John Marvin and Rosa Lee Taylor Ellis.
Bill was a 1949 graduate of Antreville High School and 1960 graduate of Erskine College. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was the former President of the Abbeville Korean Veteran’s Association. Bill retired from Milliken and Co.–Pendleton Finishing Plant after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a faithful member of Little River Baptist Church, the Men’s Sunday School class and a Deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Aline Evans, Isabelle Young, Sybil Lyons, and Hilda Nichols.
Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years of the home; a son, William Michael Ellis (Linda) of Fernandina Beach, FL; a daughter, Jeanette E. Ellis (Mike) of Antreville, SC; sister, Jean Still of Greenwood, SC; two brothers, John H. Ellis (Agnes) of Swainsboro, GA and Victor Ray Ellis (Pat) of Arnold, MD; three grandchildren, Scott Ellis (Jamie), Brad Ellis (Betty) and Becky Banks (Wes); and two great-grandsons, Charlie Banks and Brody Banks.
The family will receive friends from 6:00PM – 8:00PM, Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3:00PM Friday, October 6, 2017 at Little River Baptist Church with Rev. Garrett Hart officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery.
